How much does sober living cost in Oklahoma City?

Among Oklahoma City-area sober living programs with published prices, monthly costs run from about $325 to $750. Rent usually covers your bed, utilities and house supplies. Health insurance usually doesn’t pay, because sober living is housing, not medical treatment.

What rent usually covers

Most sober homes include a furnished bed in a shared room, utilities, internet and basic house supplies. Staffed programs also include the structure: a house manager, house meetings, testing and, at Christian homes, Bible study and mentorship. Food, your phone and transportation are usually on you.

Why prices differ

  • Staff. A peer-run house costs less. A house manager, mentors and a program cost more.
  • Structure. Testing, curfews and required meetings take time and money to run well.
  • The house. Private rooms, newer homes and better locations raise rent.
  • Length of stay. Some programs ask for 12 months or more and price the first month higher.

Costs to ask about before you move in

  • Move-in fee or deposit, and whether it comes back
  • Drug test fees
  • Program or class fees
  • Fines for breaking house rules
  • Food, phone and rides to work

How men pay for sober living

Most men pay rent from a job, and most homes expect you to find work early. Family members often cover the first month. Some churches help through a benevolence fund. Oklahoma’s state recovery housing scholarship paid only certified homes that accept medication for opioid use disorder, and the state has listed it as paused (ODMHSAS).

Questions to ask any sober living home

  • Is the home certified? In Oklahoma, that’s OKARR.
  • What exactly does rent include?
  • Can I see the house rules in writing before I pay?
  • Who runs the house day to day?
  • How often do you test, and who pays for it?
  • What happens if I relapse?
  • Do you pay anyone for referrals? The answer should be no. Federal law bans paying for referrals to recovery homes in many cases (18 U.S.C. § 220).
